The Fast and The Frightening: Speed Microfiction Contest
THE FAST AND THE FRIGHTENING a scary, speed micro-fiction writing contest in collaboration with Idaho Horror Film Festival.

If your creative cauldron is bubbling with devilish ideas, or you fancy yourself the next Edgar Allen Poe, you won’t want to miss The Fast and the Frightening, a speed micro-fiction writing contest in collaboration with Idaho Horror Film Festival!

You’ll receive a horror writing prompt and 20 minutes to concoct a sinister story of 500 words or less. We encourage bringing along a digital device, though we’ll accept pen/pencil and paper if your scrawling is legible. Carrie
Join us for a mind-bending Opening Night of the Idaho Horror Film Festival. Best Bad Prom Costume wins a pair of VIP Passes!

Grab your low-backed chair, or get there early and claim one of Boise Brewing's table and for just $5.00 at the door (FREE FOR IHFF PASS HOLDERS) screen one of our all-time favorites!

Carrie White may eat shit in Hell but she’ll fuck you up before she gets there. Based on Stephen King’s first novel, Brian De Palma’s adaptation is a bonafide horror classic. As social pariah Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) nears the end of her high school career she becomes more confident in her burgeoning telekinetic powers. As she faces down her school bullies and her overbearing, over-zealoted mother (Piper Laurie) she increasingly becomes a target for all those who want to control her. As prom night draws near little do all the characters know the darkness that awaits them. At once both a grisly coming of age tale and a tender look at a young woman who just wants to be accepted, Carrie remains one of the most frighteningly relatable horror films ever made.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Idaho Horror Film Festival & Humpin Hannah's present: The Rocky Horror Picture Show! This low-budget freak show/cult classic/cultural institution concerns the misadventures of Brad Majors (Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Sarandon) inside a strange mansion that they come across on a rainy night. The owner of this house is a transvestite clad in lingerie, Dr. Frank N. Furter (Curry), a mad scientist who claims to be from another planet.

But seriously, do you need a description? It’s ROCKY HORROR! THE cult classic... there is no other film quite like Rocky Horror and there never will be. This timeless film is best screened late and we’re more than happy to bring this tradition back to Humpin Hannah's!

Props: rice, toilet paper, water pistols, toast, noisemakers, cards, confetti & more sold at the door for ONLY $6! Character Costume Contest with HUGE Prizes for:

Dr. Frank N. Furter, a scientist
Janet Weiss, a heroine
Brad Majors, a hero
Riff Raff, a handyman
Magenta, a domestic
Columbia, a groupie
Dr. Everett V. Scott, a rival scientist
Rocky Horror, a creation
Meat Loaf as Eddie, an ex-delivery boy
The Criminologist, an expert

Rocky Horror is a true audience participation movie. People yell back lines at the screen during the extended pauses between dialogue, dress up in costume and act out the film, and throw props various times during the film. It is a rock-musical send-up of old science-fiction and horror films. Dress as one of the characters, or just in bustiers, fishnet and burlesque-type costume.

IHFF passholders get in for FREE or ONLY $5.00 at Hannah's door!

Screening Block 1
Short Films:

SOLD
Directed by: Troy Greenwood
Runtime: 2:30
Synopsis: A gambler in over his head makes a deal he isn't prepared for. When the chips start to fall he's left looking for a way out!

THE THING ABOUT BEECHER'S GATE
Directed by: Jeremy Herbert
Runtime: 25:10
Synopsis: Deputy Eli Stoker (Morgan McLeod) knew was he was getting into. Everyone told him the same thing. Watch out for the boys from Beecher’s Gate. But he still filed for a transfer as soon as he saw an opening. And there always seemed to be an opening in Beecher’s Gate. It didn’t much surprise Stoker when the Sheriff (Chris Cipa) gave him a short-straw shift before the end of his first week: spend the night in a shed out in the middle of the woods. No explanation. No expectation. All the Sheriff could offer was a flashlight, a shotgun and a word - tradition. It happened every year, and the fresh meat always handled it. Whatever it was. The Sheriff’s son, Deputy Clancy (Alex Bryan), tried to help as much as he could, but if he was in on the joke, he didn’t seem to find it funny anymore. Whether it was a prank or pure waste of time, Stoker would have to wait until the oldest tradition in Beecher’s Gate came knocking at the door.

THE RAT (Sundance Selection)
Directed by: Carlen May-Mann
Runtime: 12:00
Synopsis: It's Halloween night, and 18-year-old Renee is madly in love with her boyfriend Jim. They've made plans to go to a frat party, but after he picks her up he takes a detour, driving off the beaten path to a haunted house. Here, Renee is forced to confront a terrifying situation and come face to face with the thing that, deep down, she’s most afraid of.

TOE (Animated)
Directed By: Neal O'Bryan, Chad Thurman

Synopsis: A starving boy eats a toe he finds sticking out of the ground. Later that night, something ghastly comes to his bedroom wanting it back.

BOO
Directed by: Rakefet Abergel
Runtime: 15:00
Synopsis: A traumatic event forces a recovering addict to face her demons, without her worried fiancé uncovering the truth. Over the course of a rough night, Devi, 7 years sober, must make a difficult choice between WHO she loves and WHAT she loves.

SELF DEFENSE
Directed by: Zach Bradley
Runtime: 11:47

Show Biz or Show Hobby: Taking your career to the next level.
Crit Killen and Catrine McGregor started their careers on the same film: Bladerunner. Crit designed weapons for the film and Catrine was involved with background player casting, but they  met only  a few years ago when they were both guests at a ComicCon. Strangely enough, they found out that they were both working as producers on the same documentary, King Cohen. During those interim years, Crit and Catrine both worked on many prominent films - in various positions. Crit designed the Beetlejuice costume and was the script doctor on dozens of studio films, including Inception. Catrine has worked on hundreds of films, TV shows and video games as a producer and casting director, for which she has received several national awards.

Industry Panel: Marketing Your Film
What should you do with your short after it's completed?
Short films are tricky. There are many reasons to make one, but ultimately, shorts are less likely to have the mass appeal of feature-length films. So, what do you do with a short once you're ready to release it?
Do you put it immediately online? Do you submit to a festival? And if you do submit to a festival, is it for cash prizes or exposure? How do you make your short appealing to festivals? Do you look for some avenue of distribution thereafter? These are all questions you should be asking before you make any decision, including your initial decision to shoot short in the first place.

The most crucial thing you can do as a short filmmaker is to be prepared for what comes next.

Financing Your Film in the Mountain West
This panel bringing into focus how you make a film in State without incentives and how partnering with another state that does (Montana) can help you fund your project. Molly Deckart, Director of the Boise Film Foundation will discuss their fiscal sponsorship and the benefits of funding your film using this model.  JD Jacoby of the Montana Film Office will explain the robust grant programs and the newly passed Media Act! Director, Andrew Garcia will talk successful funding of his projects, particularly how his film HERO became a calling card for funding future projects.

Montana's MEDIA ACT:

The MEDIA Act provides for a 20% production expenditure tax credit, with additional components that can increase the transferable credit to a maximum of 35% of total base film production investment. Those add-on incentives can include:
• 25% of compensation for Montana resident crews
• 15% of compensation for non-Montana resident crew
• 30% of compensation paid to students
• 20% of above the line compensation per production or television series season, with ceiling
• 15% of compensation paid to actors
• 10% of payments to Montana colleges or universities
• 10% of all in-studio facility and equipment rental expenditures
• 5% of expenditures in a high poverty county
• 25% of post-production wages (Not effective until 2021)
• 5% for Montana screen credit

SYNOPSIS
A pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope has to fight for her life - and her tips - when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Chelsea Stardust has been a horror film fan since the age of 10 when her father showed her George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and Tod Browning’s Dracula. When she wasn’t racing sled dogs in the snowy Midwest, Chelsea consumed all the cinema she could get her hands on. During high school she attended night classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she assisted filmmaker Robert Banks Jr. in shooting Super 8 experimental horror films. Robert also introduced her to films like Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Larry Cohen’s God Told Me To and Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes.
